Business Developer Job Objective:
Responsible for the development and performance of all sales and contracting activities in assigned markets. Provides leadership towards the achievement of maximum profitability and growth in line with company vision and values. Establishes plans and strategies to expand the customer base in the marketing area and contributes to the development and delivery of sales presentations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and submit bid packages in response to RFP and RFQ solicitations.
- Acquire service contracts with Federal, State and Local Government agencies through the formal procurement process.
- Prepare and conduct proposals and sales presentations.
- Develop a business plan and sales strategy for the market that ensures attainment of company sales goals and profitability.
- Prepare action plans for effective search of sales leads and prospects.
- Initiate and coordinate development of action plans to penetrate new markets.
- Establish strategic business relationships with companies and agencies within our core industries.
- Serve as the lead writer and bid preparer for all solicitations for new and renewing business.
- Serve as the lead to ensure bid packets are submitted on time and according to the specific guidelines of each solicitation.
- The ability to learn the inner workings of this organization so that you will be able to respond to inquiries of all internal and external audiences.
- Submit response to solicitations to Federal, State, and Local governments and non government interests to procure new business opportunities for the company.
- Assist in the development and implementation of marketing plans as needed.
- Provide timely feedback to senior management regarding performance.
- Provide timely, accurate, and competitive pricing on all bids and proposals submitted on behalf of the company, while striving to maintain a maximum profit margin.
- Maintain accurate records of all pricing, sales, and proposals submitted.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes.
Relationships and Roles:
- Meet or exceed activity standards for prospecting calls, appointments, presentations, participation in networking events, proposals and closed business.
- Implement responsibility and accountability for bid and proposal follow-up.
- Provide current and prospective customers with clear and easy to understand information pertaining to all products and services.
- Set the example of personal character with regard to commitment, selling skills, and work habits.
- Conduct regular coaching with staff (as needed) to build motivation, selling and prospecting skills.
- Maintain contact with all clients in the market area to ensure high levels of client satisfaction.
- Maintain current knowledge of landscape techniques, products, and practices that can help the company perform more efficiently and effectively.
- Demonstrate ability to interact and cooperate with all company employees.
Job Specifications:
- 2 - 3 years of experience in sales or bidding and proposal writing.
- 4-year degree in marketing, management, landscape architecture or related field.
- Strong understanding of customer and market dynamics.
- Possess an integral knowledge of bid preparation and/or grant writing with a proven track record of securing bids/grants for which you have written.
- Willingness to travel when required in pursuit of new business opportunities.
- Strong presentation skills; impeccable oral and written communication skills (a sample sales presentation and writing specimen will be required at interview)
- Detail oriented; diligent in submitting thorough and complete information.
- Consistent client service delivery; ability to implement client appreciation initiatives; ‘people-person’; demonstrates ease and effectiveness in public forums.
- Passion for sales; goal oriented with ability to meet established revenue requirements; ability to manage and lead an effective sales division.
- Self-Starter; motivated individual who can carry out tasks with minimal assistance; intuitive; creative; internal drive to succeed.
- Effective at multi-tasking; able to keep pace in a fast moving business environment; ability to follow written and verbal directives and manage multiple deadlines.
- Proficient with computer software programs; MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); able to utilize Social Media to market products and services; ability to create presentations, marketing collateral, etc.
- Industry knowledge; strong research skills; familiarity with industry standard equipment; physically capable of demonstrating the use or application of products and services.
